- Abstract
This book review provides a comprehensive overview of the Register-Functional (RF) approach to the study of grammatical complexity. The book is divided into five parts, each focusing on different aspects of the RF approach. Part I introduces the theoretical foundation of the RF approach, while Part II presents descriptive studies on synchronic patterns of complexity in different registers. Part III explores diachronic patterns of complexity, and Part IV includes applied studies on language development. The book concludes with a discussion of future directions for RF research. Overall, this book is recommended for scholars and students interested in grammatical complexity and its applications in research and teaching.
