- Abstract
The article examines the representation of ethnography in the writings of Martinican author Édouard Glissant. The author is said to claim in his essay "Poetique de la Relation" that ethnography arises from the need to understand foreign cultures. Glissant's conception of a Caribbean ethnography and the role of ethnography in the process of relation is discussed. It is noted that the focus of ethnography on the notion of otherness appealed to Glissant.
