Presents an interview with author Eileen Julien about her life, her work and the art of making gumbo. She discusses her childhood experiences in New Orleans, Louisiana, and how the city has changed in terms of its racial and economic make up, and the making of the gumbo. Julien cites the healing power of making gumbo and how its origin and production challenge people think about identity. She also comments on orality, racial authenticity, social justice, and African Diaspora.
