- Title
Stem cells: An ageing decline.
- Authors
Baumann, Kim
- Abstract
The article focuses on a study which reveals that an age-dependent change in fibroblast growth factor signalling in the muscle stem cell niche influences stem cell quiescence and is responsible for the decline in stem cell function. Satellite cells have the ability to self-renew and function as a stem cell population that is vital for the repair and homeostatic maintenance of skeletal muscle. It notes that muscle fibre is considered to be a part of the satellite stem cell niche
