The article explores the narrative technique, known as direct address, in William Shakespeare's "Richard III" and Netflix's television series "House of Cards." It discusses how the lead characters of "Richard III" and "House of Cards" control the narrative, other characters and the audience, the conspiratorial nature of the direct address, and on how the power of the direct address rests in the ability of the character to make the audience accomplices and co-conspirators.
