- Abstract
The article discusses the impact of general international law of the sea on the decision of the U.S. to reject the Third United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS III) in 1982. Some issues relevant to the law of the sea arising from the North Sea Continental Shelf Cases in the International Court of Justice (ICJ) are tackled. The interests of the U.S. in different areas including marine scientific research, marine environment and ocean boundaries which will be affected by the UNCLOS are explained.
