- Title
FEDERAL AID TO SCHOOLS: ITS LIMITED FUTURE.
- Authors
TIMPANE, P. MICHAEL
- Abstract
The article discusses the dependence of public school systems on U.S. federal aid as of January 1974, provides a brief history of federal support of education systems, and explains why such cannot continue. It states that early in the nation's history, the federal government offered free education to forge a national identity. As needs increased, however, funding became more of a burden, resulting in inequities. It reports that the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) of 1965 needs further funding, or it cannot continue to support education.
