- Abstract
The article focuses on the role of law in the planning process for future urban growth in the U.S., and the effectiveness of legal techniques in achieving desirable objectives for an urban society. It presents the views of researcher Nathan Glazer on the American style of the use and development of land resources, and how an individualistic bias in the legal style affects the development of an effective urban policy. It discusses the laws that help in implementing programs for the renewal of cities including the housing codes, that deals with the problems of housing quality and the urban renewal program, that encourages public acquisition of land for the elimination of urban blight.
