- Abstract
The aim of this study is to develop the vocabulary of 4th grade primary school students through utilizing creative drama as a method. The implementation of this study was carried out with the participation of 17 students (3 girls and 14 boys) from the 4th grade of a private primary school. The implementation process was comprised of 18 hours (3 hours per session). The research desing of the study was structured by quasi-experimental type that included one group pretest and posttest model has been applied. It was collected both quantitative and qualitative data during the research. An achievement test with open-ended questions was developed by the researcher as a quantitative data collection tool. This achivement test was implemented twice both at the begining of the process and at the end of the process as a pre and post test. Qualitative data was collected through student diaries. Students wrote diaries at the end of every session. Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test was used for analysis of quantitative data. Descriptive analysis was used for analysis of qualitative data. According to research results, it can be said that creative drama is an effective education method for both developing vocabulary of primary school students and better understanding of proverbs' and idioms' meanings by the students.
