- Authors
Champion, Tori
- Abstract
Catherine Perrot, a French artist in the 17th century, published a manual on art theory and practice called Les leçons royales in 1686. She focused on color selection and application, targeting non-professional painters. Perrot's association with the Académie royale de peinture et de sculpture challenged traditional views on drawing versus color and intellectual versus manual activity. Her work expanded the scope of miniature painting and challenged gender roles within the art world.
