- Abstract
The article discusses ways in which opportunities for corruption arise in the context of government procurement. The author examines the divergence between the procurement officer's personal interest and that of the government and of the public. He also looks at the impact of corruption at the political level. In conclusion, the author suggests that in designing procurement regulations that will assist in the fight against corruption, care must be taken to identify those opportunities in the procurement function which may be reduced through regulation.
