- Abstract
This paper represents the author's attempt to research the interaction of language and gender within the critical discourse analysis of children media discourse. More precisely, the episodes of Peppa Pig children animated cartoon synhronised in Serbian have been analysed for the representation of deconstructing gender stereotypes. The main hypothesis of the paper states that the critical discourse analysis will show a discrepancy between the gender identities represented in Peppa Pig and the traditional stereotyped gender identities. The auxiliary hypothesis reflects the same discrepancy in the context of a traditional family consisting of a father, a mother, a son and a daughter. Putting the results of the analysis in the theoretical context of Albert Bandura's Social Learning Theory and Sandra Bem's Gender Schema Theory, the author will prove these results to be important for the learning of aschematic gender roles for the children of preschool age. Additionally, the results of the analysis imply further empirical research of the influence of such and alike media contents on the constructon of children's gender identities.
