- Abstract
The scales of fish are used as the tool for identification of fishes. The elemental profile of scales of fish could be the one of the additional parameters for the differentiation of fish species. Four species of genus Puntius have been used to investigate the elemental composition of scales for the present study. These species were from the same environment but show different scale chemistry as detected by EDX. So it could be concluded that elemental composition of a scale can be used to differentiate fish up to the species level on the basis of presence or absence of a particular element.
