- Abstract
The article reports on intimate partner violence (IPV) in the U.S. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that an average 4.8 million women experience IPV and 2.9 million men experience IPV which can include rape, physical assault, and mental abuse with an average annual cost of around $8.3 billion. In 2001 the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations released guidelines for hospital emergency departments and ambulatory care clinics which require them to identify IPV and to intervene.
