- Abstract
This article cites a study on the influence of hydrogen-ion concentration and temperature on the ultraviolet-absorbing properties of porphyra-334, a type of mycosporine-like amino acids (MAA) widely distributed among marine algae. Commercial products of Porphyra yezoensis harvested from the Ariake Sea in Saga Prefecture, Japan were used. Dried nori was stored at -20°C until used. It was found that the absorbance of porphyra was dependent on storage time. Moreover, temperature had marked influence on the stability of the MAA.
