- Abstract
The article presents information about contents of current issue of the journal "Family Matters." This edition of the journal reports on the research findings of the Australian Divorce Transitions Project. This is a major study of the processes of divorce and its consequences--a study that builds on previous ground breaking work of the Institute in this area in the last two decades, published as "Settling Up," in 1986, "Settling Down in 1993," and "Remaking Families," in 1996. A key researcher involved in these earlier Institute studies and pivotal in developing our conceptual frameworks was the late Kathleen Funder, Principal Research Fellow of the Family Studies Institute. There are four articles based on data from this Institute Projects. In a thought provoking article, the Chief Justice of the Family Court of Australia, Justice Alistair Nicholson, provides the legal context of family law in this country, and Belinda Fehlberg, a Principal Research Fellow at the Institute, provides a comprehensive update on key changes in the area of family law--a useful review in the light of the many changes before parliament or anticipated for introduction.
