- Abstract
Introduction: Body dysmorphia is increasing in the population that is dedicated to weight lifting, which can develop other types of pathologies such as eating behavior, steroid abuse, obsessive-compulsive disorder, anxiety and depression. For this reason, it is important to have the appropriate tools to achieve a timely diagnosis to later offer treatment to those who suffer from it. Objective: The objective of this systematic review is to analyze which instruments or test are most widely used to diagnose body dysmorphia in weightlifters. Methodology: A search for original articles and systematic reviews was carried out in the Dialnet, SciELO, Redalyc and Scopus data bases, as well as in the Google Scholar search engine, yielding a total of 137 documents, after applying the search criteria. inclusion and exclusion, and eliminate duplicates, there will be 10 articles for review. Results: The results showed that the most useful instruments or test when diagnosing body dysmorphia are the Muscle Appearance Satisfaction Scale (MASS), the Adonis Complex Test, the Muscle Dysmorphia Inventory (MDI) and the Muscle Dysmorphic Disorder Inventory (MDDI), standing out for its internal consistency and for measuring the dimensions of the disorder. Conclusions: It was possible to identify the most used instruments or test to diagnose body dysmorphia. It is important to use appropriate instruments for the diagnosis of this disorder to avoid confusing it with other pathologies linked to body image and sport.
