- Abstract
The article "That sounds really gay - A socio-phonetic investigation into stereotypical gay speech in German" examines the stereotypical way of speaking among gay individuals. Four speakers were analyzed to determine which features are used to construct a specific gay personality. The results show certain speech patterns and the selective use of variants. This study contributes to the exploration of the connection between language and sexuality among German speakers. Various phonetic features such as fundamental frequency, formant values, vowel duration, and intensity were examined. The results indicate that there are certain features that are more commonly used in gay speech. The study also demonstrates that stereotypes are local constructions and cannot be generalized.
