- Title
Saudis Ban Valentine's Day Roses.
- Abstract
The article reports that religious police in Saudi Arabia have prohibited the sale of Valentine's Day gifts in 2009. The ban on selling red items such as roses is noted, mentioning that Saudi authorities see the celebration of Valentine's Day as un-Islamic. The opinion of Saudi authorities that the festival encourages sexuality out of wedlock is noted. The increasing price of roses on the Saudi Arabian black market is also mentioned, as well as the plan of many Saudis to travel to more liberal countries to celebrate Valentine's Day.
