- Abstract
This article describes a poster portraying the fight against cancer created by Bernard Villemot. Humanity, portrayed by a mighty colossus, advances on the disease, drawn as a crab. With claws raised menacingly, the crab intimidates, but humanity seems sure to triumph. The poster was produced for the French National Cancer Society. It was one of a series of posters aimed to raise funds for research in the treatment of cancer patients. Although its style points to the 1930s, Villemot did most of his public work in the 1940s and early 1950s.
