- Abstract
Acquired brain injury is one the main causes of disability in Portugal. The Centro de Reabilitaçã Profissional de Gala (CRPG) has been developing, since 2002, a neuropsychological rehabilitation programme (NRP) designed to respond to the specific needs of this population. This study aims the dissemination of the programme, its theoretical rationale, objectives and activities, and also the analysis of its impacts and effectiveness in the rehabilitation of the sequels of brain injury, and the identification of future development areas. The study has been carried out on 118 people with acquired brain injury that enrolled the programme between 2002 and 2007. The retrospective analysis of data has enabled to demographically identify the population, as well as the brain injury type etiology, severity -- and the type of intervention. The intervention results have been measured through the analysis of the type of outcomes after discharge from the programme: occupational activities, vocational training, return to work, and others. The two modalities of intervention, individual vs. group, have been comparatively analysed and it has been concluded that the group modality, for being more comprehensive and intensive, increases the level of ability of the person to pursue vocational training or return to work programmes.
