- Abstract
The article explores the settlement of the Jews in Walla Walla, Washington which started from the California gold rush in 1849 until the immigration of the new wave of Jews from Eastern Europe in 1882. It notes that the early Jews in Walla Walla are merchants, peddling from place to another to sell goods. It also presents the life and family of the first Jewish settlers in the town, which includes Jacques Bauer, the Schwabacher brothers, and the family of David Wertheimer. The pioneer families of the second wave of Jews in Walla Walla are also cited.
