- Authors
Stern, Norton B.; Kramer, William M.
- Abstract
The article profiles Jacob Frankfort who was considered as the first Jew to reach Los Angeles, California in December 1841. It indicates that Frankort was a member of the Workman-Rowland party from the far West Santa Fe, New Mexico. It states that there were no direct evidence to confirm that Frankfort was Jew, however, there were three indications that could consider Frankfort as Jew. The first indication would be his name which has a Jewish ring, secondly, was his occupation as a tailor or merchant tailor which was the most popular Jewish occupations, thirdly, was his office which was located in the same building were shops of the identifiable pioneer Jews of city are settled.
