- Abstract
This article discusses the decision of the Internet search company Google Inc. to recreate the legendary Library of Alexandria online with scans of large university and public library collections. This is not the first library project; the Gutenberg Project has been running for 34 years. Google began scanning all the books in the New York Public Library and the libraries at the University of Michigan, Harvard, and Stanford.
