- Abstract
The past decade has witnessed a concentrated effort on the part of various feminist groups to improve the status of American women in contemporary society. The feminist movement has charged that women are afforded a second class status vis-a-vis men due to widespread sex discrimination in accepted modes of social and sexual expression, employment practices, compensation for services rendered and legal and economic opportunities, privileges, and obligations. While the feinmist campaign has not been successful at eliminating all forms of sex discrimination, its influence has been substantial witness the appearance of legislation such as the Equal Opportunities Employment Act, the Equal Rights Amendment, and recent court decisions favoring the feminist position on abortion, the quest for economic independence from spouses, etc.
