The article discusses how some lies have instrumental value that advances the goals underlying freedom of speech in the U.S. Topics discussed include the U.S. Supreme Court's decision in the court case 'United States v. Alvarez;' laws aimed to facilitate gaining access to truthful information on matters of substantial public concern; and the U.S. Constitution's First Amendment protection.
