- Authors
Klausner, Adam P.; Albo, Michael E.; Rovner, Eric S.; Sutherland, Suzette E.
- Abstract
This article provides a historical overview of urology and emphasizes the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the field. It specifically addresses the challenges faced by Black urologists and the limited access to care for Black patients. The article also discusses the upcoming AUA Annual Meeting, which will feature a debate on the best type of sling for stress urinary incontinence. Three types of slings are being discussed, and each expert presents their arguments for their preferred sling type. The article further explores the debate surrounding different types of slings used for the surgical treatment of female stress urinary incontinence, highlighting the tension between the traditional autologous pubovaginal sling and the more recent mesh mid-urethral sling. It concludes by stating that the single-incision sling is now recognized as an equally viable option for SUI treatment.
