- Abstract
The article focuses on the book "Population Dynamics: A New Economic Approach," by C.Y. Cyrus Chu. The book bridges the gap between the classical supply- side population theory of T. R. Maithus and the modern demand-side theory of economic demography by investigating the dynamic macro implications of various static micro family decisions. The author discusses about demographic models and branching processes; steady states and comparative statics with age-specific population models. Topics like steady states and comparative dynamics with income-specific population models; lineage extinction and inheritance patterns; sex preferences and two-sex models are also discussed. The author discusses about the previous research on cyclical patterns of human population; attitude-specific population models and dynamic custom evolution. Occupation-specific population models and dynastic cycles are explained. Other topics which are discussed include Easterlin cycles, the relationship between fertility and the labor market, and demographic transition and economic development
