- Abstract
An essay is presented that discusses cemetery inauguration ceremonies in the context of 19th century Hasidic Jewish rituals in Eastern Europe. Topics include circumambulation of graves as an aspect of Jewish burial rites, the relation of Hasidic tsadikim to cemetery inauguration ceremonies, and the social significance of the tsadik's charisma.
