- Abstract
In the New France era, the country of the Illinois, or High Louisiana, was the junction between Canada and Lower Louisiana. In recent years, historians have taken an interest in this area and are now demonstrating the economic, strategic and original nature of this society. Little is known however of its judicial system, which was under military control. The study of a desertion case in the middle of the eighteenth century helps understand the issues and challenges of military justice in the Upper Mississippi Valley during the French Regime.
