- Title
Enzyme-treated rock particles are accelerating carbon sequestration.
- Abstract
FabricNano and Veolia have partnered to conduct a trial project combining enhanced rock weathering (ERW) with biotechnology to accelerate carbon sequestration. The project involves applying enzymes to rocks to permanently store atmospheric CO2 through ERW. The trial, located near Bicester, U.K., uses large-particle basalt rock fines sourced from local mining operations. By immobilizing enzymes onto rocks, the process aims to shorten the timescale for carbon sequestration and enable the use of larger rock particles. The project plans to expand to more trial sites with Veolia this year.
