- Title
Solid-state synthesis simplifies cathode manufacture.
- Abstract
Researchers at the Fraunhofer Institute for Machine Tools and Forming Technology have developed a prototype system called BPPflexRoll that simplifies the production of bipolar plates (BPPs) used in fuel cells and electrolyzers. The new technology uses roll embossing to continuously mass-produce BPPs, reducing costs and increasing production speeds. In another development, Sylvatex Inc. has created an all-solid-state technology for the production of cathode active materials (CAM) in lithium-ion batteries. This single-step CAM synthesis process eliminates the need for water and reduces waste, resulting in lower costs and a smaller carbon footprint. Additionally, Litona GmbH plans to produce energy-storage materials for sodium-ion batteries on an industrial scale, potentially reducing costs for stationary energy-storage systems and electric mobility.
