Poisoned Eden: Cholera Epidemics, State-Building, and the Problem of Public Health in Tucumán, Argentina, 1865-1908 by Carlos S. Dimas (review) Carlos s. dimas's new book provides the first history of cholera and its impact on governance and public health in the small but economically important northern Argentine province of Tucumán. Each part of Dimas's book contains two chapters, the first mostly discussing the appearance of and state reaction to cholera and the second discussing the larger consequences, especially institutionalization among the different levels of government.
