- Abstract
One of the least considered issues in relation to the Language of Thought hypothesis (LOT) is its applicability to abilities that do not require the exercise of language, such as abilities involved in visual perception. In spite of their early and explicit defence of such applicability, later views expressed by Pylyshyn and Fodor, each on his own, seem to be strikingly opposed to each other when it comes to the nature of visual representation. In this paper, I defend the view that, surprisingly enough, neither of those authors offers a satisfactory account of visual representation in LOT and I outline an alternative analysis for the correct formulation of a visual LOT.
