- Abstract
The article discusses tension pneumomediastinum, a rare but serious condition that can lead to cardiogenic shock. It explains that pneumomediastinum is the presence of air in the mediastinum, and can be caused by airway diseases or trauma. While most cases of pneumomediastinum can be managed conservatively, tension pneumomediastinum requires immediate treatment. The article describes a bedside technique for mediastinal decompression using a supra jugular approach, which was successfully used in a case study. It concludes that the choice of technique for decompression depends on the available expertise, and that supra jugular mediastinal decompression is a safe and effective option.
