- Abstract
The article focuses on the poetic production of Pierre de Fermat. It states that Fermat sent two Latin verses to Mersenne's circle in Paris, France on the occasion of the long-awaited birth of the future Louis the Fourteenth. It says that Fermat's poem reveals his familiarity with the classics, particularly classical versification. It adds that Jean-Louis Guez de Balzac, to whom the poem is dedicated, is the main source of his Latin poem "Yield to God."
