- Abstract
This study aims to address the issue of the adoption of Islamic banking practices in certain countries, namely Pakistan, Iran, and Sudan. It seeks to examine the stages of the Islamization process in each of these nations, the reasons for the reversal of this process, and the consequences thereof. The research employs an analytical and historical approach to analyze the unique circumstances in each country and the manifestations of apostasy from Islamic banking. The findings reveal that apostasy from Islamic banking took different forms in these countries, such as incomplete implementation in Pakistan, practical challenges in Iran, and regulatory constraints in Sudan. Notably, Sudan stands out as the only nation where full Islamization of the banking system was achieved after the secession of South Sudan in 2011. International pressures and a severe economic blockade played pivotal roles in prompting a re-evaluation of banking laws in Sudan, ultimately allowing for the coexistence of traditional and Islamic banking practices.
