- Abstract
The 3D conceptual domain model can be used as a prototype to subdivide interior design projects into simpler, more systematized processes that benefit both the user and the designer. The concept of participatory design can be seamlessly integrated into a user-centered framework by creating an environment where stakeholders actively collaborate to co-create the desired outcome. This theoretical model applies decomposition and classification theories to organize and break down knowledge via categories and classifications. These theories, originally used in mathematics and business research, can be usefully implemented in developing built environments. Both the designer and the user can practice this conceptual model on three system levels: human, building, and architectural. The human level represents the interests and needs of the user and informs the research criteria for the project. The response to the human-level system is a set of architectural and building options. This study, which proposes a 3D conceptual domain model, is intended to help interior designers to evolve their methods of research to meet users' emerging needs.
