- Authors

- Abstract
This article examines the environmental impact of digital infrastructures, specifically focusing on cloud computing. It analyzes J.R. Carpenter's web-based poem-essay, "The Gathering Cloud," which emphasizes the physical reality of data storage and transmission. The article raises ethical questions about cloud computing and calls for a better understanding of our dependence on digital technologies. It also discusses the excessive electricity consumption of data centers and the lack of transparency in the industry. Carpenter's work incorporates images, texts, and historical artifacts to explore the intersections of art, technology, and science, while also encouraging readers to consider the ethics and environmental impact of their media consumption choices.
