The article focuses on depiction of walking as prominent mode of transportation in literature by author Henry David Thoreau. Topics discussed include illustration of changes in different transportation modes such as introduction of railways along with automobility that enhances freedom; description of cost benefit analysis regarding pedestrianism by Thoreau in the "Walden" book; and analysis of relationship between physical activity such as walking and function of cognition.
