- Abstract
Music has been a part of the public-school curriculum in developed nations for a long. Many educators have highlighted the importance of school music education, as music helps to improve cognitive abilities and holistic development of students. Numerous studies are present about various aspects of school music education in other countries. However, study related to school music education in India is limited and our previous pilot study with a small sample in the east district of Sikkim indicated lacunas regarding this. This article explores the evolution of school music education in a developed nation and also shows its status in India from a perspective.
