The article describes two cases of calcification of the skin in coal-miners. The cause was identified as the roof water of the coal-mine which contained 3.5 percent of calcium chloride. The lesion was reproduced experimentally by applying a similar solution to the scarified skin. Other examples have been previously reported but much bigger concentrations of calcium chloride were responsible.
