- Title
Active surveillance in all cases of screen‐detected prostate cancer.
- Authors
Takahashi, Takeshi
- Abstract
The article discusses the use of active surveillance (AS) as a treatment option for prostate cancer. It highlights the argument made by urologists that certain prognostic factors can be used to identify clinically insignificant prostate cancers, which can then be managed through AS instead of surgery. However, the article points out contradictions in this logic and questions the need for PSA testing if overall mortality remains the same with or without screening. It also raises concerns about overdiagnosis and the lack of studies confirming the clinical insignificance of certain cancers.
