- Abstract
This article focuses on melanotic and amelanotic lentigo maligna. Lentigo maligna usually presents with irregular pigmentation and configuration of a slowly evolving lesion in sun-exposed skin of usually elderly patients, while amelanotic lesions are extremely rare. Histologic examination of persisting eryrhematous lesions on sun-damaged skin in elderly patients is recommended. This hypothesis would also explain some variants of multiple recurrences in patients with histologically proven tumor-free margins and the even more rare variants of aggressive lentigo maligna.
