- Abstract
COPD causes decreased functionality and muscle strength, in addition to favoring the reduction of exercise capacity, which generates physical inactivity and directly influences the quality of life of patients. The objective is to evaluate the quality of life and level of daily physical activity of patients with COPD. This is a descriptive cross-sectional study carried out in a pulmonology clinic in Goiânia-GO. The AQ20 questionnaire was applied to assess the quality of life and the pedometer was used for four days to assess the level of physical activity. It had 70 adult individuals with a mean age of 72.96 ±7.46 years, with COPD, who were mostly severely inactive (60%) and with satisfactory quality of life (8.37±4.32 points). It was observed that the level of daily physical activity is associated with age (r=-0.59, p<0.001), dyspnea (r=-0.53, p<0.001) and quality of life (r= -0, 41, p<0.001). On the other hand, quality of life showed a correlation with dyspnea (r=0.65, p<0.001), it is understood that the lower the activity level, the higher the quality of life. It is concluded, therefore, that severe physical inactivity predominates among COPD patients and that walking less was associated with older age, higher dyspnea index and decreased quality of life, while worse quality of life was associated with greater dyspnea.
