- Title
The Mayans among Us: Migrant Women and Meatpacking in the Great Plains by Ann L. Sittig and Martha Florinda González (review).
- Authors
McNamara, Sarah
- Abstract
Authors Ann L. Sittig and Martha Florinda González organized their study into five chronological chapters that follow Mayan women from their homes in Guatemala to the meatpacking industry in Nebraska. While Mayan women's interviews provide insight into how women who are undocumented navigate the hiring process and workplace, union officials detail the inner workings of the meatpacking plants and workers' rights. In the words of the Sittig and González, The Mayans among Us works to "share Mayan women's stories and their contribution to U.S. society" (xviii).
