- Abstract
The present paper investigates the characteristics of the surfaces finished by mechanical or electrochemical methods, for six non-noble dental alloys. Imaging analysis carried out by atomic force microscopy (AFM) enabled: nanoscale characterisation of surface topography, profile drawing of each investigated surface, determination of simplified roughness values and identifying the microscopic mechanisms of particle detachment from the material. The obtained experimental results have shown that mechanical polishing with abrasive gummed disc is recommended for Co-Cr-Mo alloys, while mechanical polishing with thin brush and abrasive paste or electrolytic polishing are suited for Ni-Cr alloys.
