An interview with British ceramicist Edmund de Waal is presented. When asked about his collection of netsuke, which is the source of his book "The Hare With Amber Eyes," he says that they refer to Japanese carvings consisted of bone and ivory. He adds that they are unique in that they are three-dimensional bits of sculpture. De Waal also discusses how he became interested in pottery.
