- Abstract
In recent years, globalization has rendered the world highly accessible and the mobility of commodities simple and less time-consuming. Freight transportation activities increased to some extent along with the economic circumstance, rendering logistics the focal point of individuals by procuring storage services and transportation, and giving individuals gateways to daily necessities and even further. Additionally, globalization has made longer supply chains possible, which is reflected in transportation routes, which influenced carbon emissions produced by supply chains. The logistics is experiencing a major transition toward highly energy-efficient and sustainable transportation by courtesy of the global attempts of authorities, policymakers and corporations to mitigate carbon emissions and reduce global warming. Contemporarily, green solutions for transportation and logistics are still in some progress, and the industry is prone to encounter alterations in transportation with the presentation of greener logistics contrivances. This study aims to learn more about ways to implement greener transport solutions using qualitative methods since logistics activities and transportation result in high levels of carbon emissions and pressure to steer these transport operations in a more sustainable direction exists. Logistics is among the fastest-developing industries of the world. Rising volumes of foreign trade along with globalization as well as the corresponding rise in production enhanced the need of supply chain management. Moreover, the employment of methods such as JIT and outsourcing in the manner of conducting business may be considered one of the reasons for the increase in the demand for logistics services. Throughout the recent 20-30 years, logistics services and their effective practices consist of the highly crucial factors that detect the world economies' competitiveness. Corporations and states assume major importance to efficient logistics in order to promote economic development and avoid disadvantages of competition may be accounted for inefficient logistics practices. For this reason, while governments make various efforts, infrastructure investments, in particular, to enhance efficiency of logistics practices, corporations generate contemporary logistics methodology to render their supply chains highly agile and competitive. They gave way to a progressive literature concentrating on the association between economic development and logistics. There is no consensus on explanatory variables that may assist attain further economic development. Nonetheless, the determinants of development and the link between logistics performance and development are topics that have received increasing attention in the literature recently. Due to the harmful effects of the logistics sector, which usually utilizes fossil fuels and creates environmental issues, certain economists recommend governments to take effective precautions in the presence of such challenge. In general, they recommend governments to promote green logistics practices and dismay polluting activities to achieve sustainability. Also, corporations tend to favor environmentally-friendly practices such as green logistics. They have opposed to the environmental degradation perpetrated by the logistics sector in a variety of manners. Despite the different types of responses, the objective is to mitigate the destructive impacts of logistics practices on the environment. The usage of green energy resources, as well as waste and cost reduction, would enhance efficient economic circumstance, once logistics practices become sustainable. Different descriptions of green logistics exist: a combination of reverse logistics practices, reducing carbon emissions and rendering supply chain activities greener; management of material and information mobility aimed at economic development, taking into consideration the interests of all components and assuring the sustainability of the environment; sustainable output production and distribution, taking into consideration social and environmental factors; a balance among environmental, economic, and societal considerations aiming at mitigating the environmental impact of logistics activities; a management style that will conserve resources, reduce waste, increase efficiency and meet societal expectations for environmental protection; integrated management of all operations required to transport output throughout the supply chain in order to satisfy customer expectations with minimal global cost. This research study aims to investigate both financial and economic impacts on green logistics activities in BRICS-T and G7 countries utilizing the relevant data obtained over the period 1999 - 2021 via the panel data analysis and compare both country groups based on the obtained results which indicated no significant impacts on green logistics activities.
