Presents an article on leucocytosis which appeared in this journal in 1903. Attention devoted by surgeons to the diagnostic value of the white blood cell count; Belief that leucocytosis is an aid to the surgeon in diagnosis; Perception that it is not possible to determine the exact condition of the kidneys or bladder by examination of the urine; Opinion that the leucocyte count alone is of too much value in determining the condition of the patient to be neglected.
